Library Related Browser Add-ons
Both Firefox and Internet Explorer currently (or will shortly) appear on many staff
and public PCs around the Library.
The following are some additions that are library specific add-ons that you may want
on your computer.
There are bookmarklets (tiny JavaScript programs contained in a bookmark) that allow
you to do quick searches of things like WorldCat or our library and search box plug-ins
for Firefox. Some are browser neutral others are specific to particular browsers.
They are grouped by browser below: Browser Neutral Firefox Internet Explorer

BROWSER NEUTRAL
Worldcat/Google Bookmarklet
Here's the bookmarklet. Get it (drag it to your favorites links). View any page with
an ISBN in the URL (such as on Amazon), and then click the bookmarklet to be taken to
the WorldCat record for the book. You'll see who in WorldCat owns the book. The
bookmarklet comes in two flavors:
Open Record in WorldCat (Same win) (opens in the same window)
Open Record in WorldCat (New Win) (opens in a new window)

FIREFOX
The plug-ins will work in either Mozilla or Firefox. The Bookmarklets will work in
Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape 4.x, Netscape 6.x/7.x, and Opera 7.x; they should also work
in any browser based on the Netscape Gecko engine -- which most of the ones above
are -- such as K-Meleon and Safari.

Bookmarklets
The bookmarklets below all search the library catalog by a specifc index the same
as you could by going out to: http://yourlibrary.edu/search~/
They are are sensitive to the currently selected text in the browser window. This
means that if you have the surname of someone selected on a web page and you click
on the "Author..." bookmarklet it will automatically perform an author search at
the library for that person's surname. If there is no currently selected text then
the bookmarklets will prompt you for any information that they require in a pop-up
dialog box.
To save a bookmarklet to your browser, you can either drag and drop it , putting it
on the links bar of your browser or bring up the context-sensitive menu (i.e. right
click in Windows, or command-click on the Mac) and then add the link directly to your
favorites/bookmarks, (select "Add to bookmarks...").
